Coin Portfolio Tracking Software?
Hi there.... I am starting a numismatic coin collection and I was wondering what the favorite software is for tracking the values of both the individual coins and the values of the portfolio? I'm getting enough coins that it would be a daunting task to try to keep track manually. So, which portfolio tracking software do you prefer?

Excel/ open office doesn't update the changing prices of the coins. Is there a preferable software which tracks the variation of daily pricing?

Re: Coin Portfolio Tracking Software?
Since you're talking numismatic coins you'll need something that taps into a larger database of values where mine is just updating the current PM pricing (gold, silver, palladium, platnium). Most of the packages I've seen have a static database (like this one) and not something that keeps them updating on a daily basis.
If you don't find something PM me. UPDATE: Here's one that updates every month for free. |
Re: Coin Portfolio Tracking Software?
I actually downloaded and tried Coin Pro and had issues with it. I was having a hell of a time navigating between pages- there is no backward arrow, and no obvious way to go back to a previous page, so I'd have to log out of the program to find an earlier page. Also, when I went to print, everything looked fine on the print preview, but when it actually printed out, the font must have been huge as I literally could get only a few words on the page.
I tried to email the people who produced the software, but the email bounced. Another one I am trying and it seems to work ok is coin manage 2007- its a pretty good program, but it only updates its prices 2x a year. I am still searching for a program which will at a minimum do a monthly price update. Rick |
Re: Coin Portfolio Tracking Software?
What source would the software use to update monthly? As I'm ignorant of numismatic coins I don't know where those values come from. Is there some sort of blue book put out every month? Is it only hardcopy or can you go to a website to get the information?

Re: Coin Portfolio Tracking Software?
You guys are hardcore....what the hell's wrong with the "Red Book"?
BTW...this is what my local guy uses. He gives me week-old ones when I ask for 'em.... http://www.greysheet.com/ |
Re: Coin Portfolio Tracking Software?
I just use spread sheet on my Mac. Once a month or as often as I feel like it, I grab a grey sheet or ask my dealer for pricing. Since I am not selling short term, I tend to keep track of daily PM movement as opposed to daily pricing for numimatics.
